What about Victims?

There are no victimless crimes and we need to consider the consequences of every offence.  It is easier to perceive the humanity and value of the victim rather than the offender and it is a challenge to care for both.

PCC believes in the process of restorative justice and recognizes the complexity of the issues involved.  While restoration and forgiveness can be pursued when appropriate there are times an apology will not heal the hurts and situations where no amount of compensation will make things right.  Where healing is possible we work with people who have offended, victims and their family members throughout the process of safe reintegration.

The most significant aspect of the work of PCC is our dedication “…to improving community safety…” and the firm belief that there should be no more victims.  Our commitment to those affected by crime is to do everything possible to ensure that others will not have to share their experience.

Dan has spent significant time working with victims over the years.  However, it is the experience from Dan’s own life that is most compelling.  A trusted member of his local community sexually assaulted his teenage son in 1998.  This crime significantly affected every member of his family.  In addition to the pain it caused, it also increased Dan’s understanding of the victim’s perspective and his resolve to make the community a safer place for everyone.
